George Bernard Shaw

I really like Shaw quotes. I've seen them, off and on, my entire life and wondered about the man. I just did a little search and found one author who thinks Shaw was a repressed homosexual. That makes me laugh a little bit.

Anyway, here are a few quotes I came across in the last few days that I thought were great. Some are funny and some make me think. I have lots more, but I figure making long lists of quotes dilutes their power.

Now, if only I wasn't too lazy to find the context for some of these to see what in the world he meant by them...
When a stupid man is doing something he is ashamed of, he always declares that it is his duty.

I often quote myself. It adds spice to my conversation.

Few people think more than two or three times a year; I have made an international reputation for myself by thinking once or twice a week.

A lifetime of happiness! No man alive could bear it; it would be hell on earth.

A life spent making mistakes is not only more honorable, but more useful than a life spent doing nothing.

Self-sacrifice enables us to sacrifice other people without blushing.

how about this:

Bernard Shaw was having a performance of a drama in London and had sent a letter to Churchill.
“Res Minister, My Play will run in London from next week and I would be honoured if you came. Here are two tickets, Please Bring a Friend (If you have one)”.
Churchill replied with a letter, “Sorry but I will not be able to come to the first show, I will however come to the 2nd (If there is one)."

I believe that deep within every person is a repressed homosexual waiting to express him/herself.

But then, I am often told my viewpoints and opinions are a little off the beaten path.

If you ever stop having a life, we should chat.

You like Bernard Shaw's quotes?
Here's more:

“I appeal to the chemists to discover a humane gas that will kill instantly and painlessly. Deadly by all means, but humane, not cruel.” – George Bernard Shaw, Listener, February 7, 1934

“A part of eugenic politics would finally land us in an extensive use of the lethal chamber. A great many people would have to be put out of existence, simply because it wastes other people’s time to look after them.” – George Bernard Shaw, Eugenics Education Society, 1910

“You must all know half a dozen people at least who are of no use in this world, who are more trouble than they are worth. We should all be obliged to appear before a board every five years and justify our existence...on pain of liquidation. Just put them there and say, ‘Sir (or madam), now, will you be kind enough to justify your existence?’ If you cannot justify your existence, if you’re not pulling your weight, …if you are not producing as much as you consume, then clearly, we cannot use the big organization of our societies for the purpose of keeping you alive. Because your life does not benefit us, and you can’t be of much use to yourself.”
