Like a horoscope I often listen to music and hear exactly the message I want to, regardless of what the words actually say or the context. So, I like these lyrics. And, I'm through accepting limits because someone says they're so. Some things I cannot change, but till I try, I'll never know!

Wicked has some very strong gay themes, which isn't surprising since it was written and scored by gay men.
I love this song, and the words are very meaningful to me as well. I listened to this song as I started my marathon--can't think of a better way to start off such an endeavor than by thinking about defying gravity.
Interestingly, L, I thought of you once when I was listening to this. Because while to me it very much is a song about defying religious and societal condemnation of homosexuality, I can also see how it would apply to someone in your situation as you too are living defiantly in your own way.
Everyone deserves a chance to fly!
An older version of this would be "High flight" which starts "I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth and danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings..."
This is one of my favorites as it gave me great hope as a very backward highschool student. The hoping payed great dividends.
I never liked the book's of Fank L. Baum (sp?) with the exception of Judy Garland's voice (which for me is the only reason I watched the movie).
When the "Wicked" music came out I got a copy of and very much enjoyed it. I want to see the play but after reading the book I was very disappointed. I truely hope the play is MUCH, MUCH better.
Still I like the music.

I haven't read the book, but my boyfriend has and he much preferred the musical to the book. For what it's worth.
Chris, aren't pretty much all musicals written and scored by gay men? Or gayish, at least? ;-)
I just watched the Producers. Holy flippin' hilari-gay.
BTW, anyone read Confessions of an Ugly Step-sister? I started it but haven't gotten around to finishing it. It's by that same guy, I think. I heard it was great though.
