Gay Islam

Here's an interesting story about a conflict between religion and homosexuality. I've heard coverage of gay Jews and gay Mormons but this was the first somewhat larger story I'd seen for Islam.

One thing that always stands out to me: why do they never cover the folks who are gay but choosing to follow the teachings of their sexually strict religion anyway (ahem, like me)? Apparently that's not perceived to be as interesting a conflict.

In my opinion, it's very dramatic. And continues to be.

L, just a thought -- but few people like you are willing to be open about their identity and many of the details of their personal lives. It's much harder to build a story around that.

Also, the movie "Trembling Before G-d" does in fact include some Orthodox/Hasidic Jews who are trying to live the tenets of their faith and traditions.

Wait. So you mean it's not a diabolical scheme by the liberal media? Huh. Sometimes I think I'm silly. And sometimes not.

I still need to look up that movie. Thanks for mentioning it a few times.

Hi L,
A Muslim here who is dealing with same-sex attractions. This website might interest you as well. http://www.straightstruggle.com it would be nice to share some thought on the faith and struggle.

Thank you for this link. I'm happy to know you and hear you are true to your convictions. I have to admit I'm from a very very Mormon background and I don't know much at all about Islam. I had some classmates in med school who I respected a great deal who were Muslim, but I never had the opportunity to learn much from them about it. Feel free to e-mail me privately (my address is in my profile) if you would like to be in touch.
